Missional Reflections
"The Very First Step"

“Start with God . . . learning is bowing down to God” (1:7). That’s funny, I always thought learning was studying, examining, experimenting, or listening.

The Proverbs can catch us off guard. When they speak of Wisdom it’s not mere knowledge; it’s God Himself, Word Himself, miraculously coming to us.

I can start my day quietly: subdued, reading the paper, a little Scripture, and catching up on the news. Or, I can start my day energetically, hardly waiting to get out the door because there is a new adventure in front of me. I can also start days with trepidation, fear, or worrying about what is to come.

The best way I can start my days though is in “bowing.” On those days of reverence God speaks to my heart, moves my limbs, and occasionally waggles my tongue into words.

The Proverb’s Wisdom is found in humility, in simpleness, and adoration of the Lord God Almighty.
